IPACS AT THE INTERNATIONAL ATHLETES’ FORUM IN LAUSANNE
On 13-15 April, the International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport (IPACS) held a booth at the International Athletes’ Forum organised by the IOC in Lausanne to inform the athletes about its activities against corruption in sport.
The International Athletes’ Forum, organised by the IOC in Lausanne from 13 to 15 April, offered an important platform to sensitise the more than 300 attending athletes’ representatives about the importance of fighting corruption and competition manipulation among their peers.
During a panel session on “Protecting Athletes”, anti-corruption and the prevention of competition manipulation were discussed. Anti-corruption was covered by IOC Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer Pâquerette Girard Zappelli. She presented the initiative of the International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport (IPACS). She called upon the participants to support this trend as the voice of all the sports movement’s actors must be heard to ensure a corruption-free environment for the Athletes.
In the Market Place, IPACS was further presented and explained to the athletes. It was deemed important that the information about this initiative reaches also the athletes, who may witness corruption situations in their organisations or communities. During the Forum, many of the athletes demonstrated their interest in keeping updated about the activities of IPACS through the website and using the information to improve the culture of good governance in their respective sport and country. Finally, a number of athletes agreed to join IPACS’ future general meetings in order to make the athletes’ voice heard.
