Federer “excited” at prospect of holding court at Tokyo 2020
Roger Federer is “very excited” at the prospect of playing at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and he will decide about his participation in the near future.
The Swiss has won 20 Grand Slam titles and, although he topped the podium alongside Stan Wawrinka in the men’s doubles at Beijing 2008, Federer has yet to win individual Olympic gold, silver being the closest he has come when beaten by Andy Murray at London 2012.
Federer, who will be 38 by the time of Tokyo 2020, told the Olympic Channel: “For me to maybe take part in it again would be great, especially after missing the last edition in Rio because of a knee issue. But I’ll just have to see how the family is doing, how my body is doing and then, if everything is green and I really feel it’s the right thing to do, I’ll play it.”
