Yumenoshima Park Archery Field hits the bullseye

Another important milestone on the road to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was reached this weekend when the Olympic and Paralympic archery venue was unveiled.

The opening drew a crowd of dignitaries including IOC Vice-President and World Archery President Dr Uğur Erdener, Honorary President of the Japan Archery Federation Princess Tsuguko and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.

Japanese archers, including two-time Olympic medallist Hiroshi Yamamoto, were also on site, adding to the festive atmosphere by shooting arrows through balloons.

The venue is set to host the Ready Steady Tokyo Archery Test Event in just over two months’ time, from 12 to 18 July.

After the Games, the facility is expected to host Japanese archery tournaments and workshops.

This is the second venue to be completed, with the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza having opened in 2017.
