The last names in the basket

The list of teams that made it to the quarterfinals in the basketball 3x3 tournament was finalised on Sunday. On the men’s side, Belgium finished the preliminary stage without losing a game in Group D, followed by Italy, while on the women’s side there are two teams that advanced to the quarterfinals - Australia and the Netherlands.

In the men’s tournament, Belgium dominated Group D. The team first won 21-11 against Kyrgyzstan, with 7 points from Ferre Vanderhoydonck, and later beat Italy 18-16 in extra time and with 7 points scored by Moussa Noterman, who also got the final shot that gave the team their victory and allowed them to advance to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 record.

"We improved our defence and we are going for the medal. We are very proud to be representing our country. What is our main strength? We understand each other well and we play with plenty of intuition," said Belgium’s Sasha Deheneffe.

On the women’s side, Australia came out on top of Group D. The team finished the preliminary stage with a 3-1 record after losing 12-7 to Spain and beating Estonia 19-15.

"Our defeat made us sad, but we kept playing our game and qualified," said Australian Suzi-Rose Deegan after scoring 9 points in the final preliminary gam

In a duel for qualification, the Netherlands won 14-12 against Spain, with 8 points by Evelien Lutje Schipholt.

"We’re advancing step by step. Each one of us gave her best and we achieved our goal," said Dutch player Zoe Slagter.

The quarterfinals will be held on Tuesday. In the men’s competition, they will feature the matchups Ukraine-Italy, Slovenia-Russia, Belgium-Brazil and Argentina-Georgia, while on the women’s side the quarterfinals will be Hungary-France, Ukraine-Australia, United States-Netherlands and Argentina-China.
