2020 Vision: Lausanne en Jeux ! set to bring cultural festival to the YOG
The upcoming Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020 will not just be about sport. Indeed, the Olympic Capital is also set to engage local people throughout the Games with a special cultural programme and sports tasters.
Lausanne en Jeux ! will bring the worlds of sport and culture together during the YOG through an exciting programme of events, including sports tasters, workshops, exhibitions, concerts and shows, which will all be open to the general public. They will take place in the heart of Lausanne, with a special set-up built in the city centre, and in many cultural venues across Lausanne.
Among the highlights of the festival will be BodyCity – an exciting show that will combine video mapping, music, dance and urban sport. Led by artistic director Nicolas Musin, the show will feature work by local art schools and performances by young Lausanne athletes and dancers, with video mapping set to illuminate a 280m2 skatepark in the Place Centrale as it turns into a stage for the occasion.
A variety of workshops will also cover activities as diverse as skiing, curling, skeleton, street art and video game design, with professional instructors delivering programmes that have been tailor-made for young people; while the wide range of exhibitions will include a special display at the Lausanne Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts (MUDAC), which highlights the cultural and social history of sports shoes.
Access to workshops, sports tasters, concerts and the BodyCity show will be completely free of charge, offering a unique opportunity for young people to learn about winter sports and the connections between culture and sport.
In total, Lausanne en Jeux ! will encompass more than 150 events and bring together some 400 athletes and artists, with more details set to be unveiled in the coming months.
